The North East Fisheries Committee jurisdiction is from the South of the Tyne down to the Humber region. They do enforce that each individual diver must have a permit for a catch

The Northumberland Fisheries Committee jurisdiction is from Berwick to the Tyne. We must abide by their byelaws (byelaw 13) and as divers you DO NOT require a permit to catch in this area.

However, the quantities that can be caught in the Northumberland area differ to that of the North East Fisheries and are as follolws:

No more than 1 lobster
5 crabs
20 whelks or 5 prawns

For an individual on a shore dive you can retrieve the amounts above for personal consumption, However, on a RIB/ Boat regardless of how many individuals are on board you can only retrieve the above amount per boat. Boats and equipment will be seized if caught with anything over the limits.

Please do not remove any lobster that are tagged or have a “V” clip in their tail fin.

If you do see any of these please report the GPS Position or nearest area to where they were seen to the Northumberland Fisheries Committee on the following number as they have a number of conservation programmes going on in the area between Berwick and the Humber.
